PPG Manor Hall Interior Paint Review By Just Add Paint: Lots and Lots of AWESOME in a can…

PPG paints have been on our radar ever since we discovered the magic of SpeedHide ceiling paint several years ago. We were excited when a recent customer requested her project be completed with PPG Manor Hall – although trying a new product for the first time can be tricky. Despite 10 + years of experience making us extremely efficient in our craft, there is ALWAYS a learning curve. Paint can be thicker or thinner than what we are used to,  or it can dry at a different rate. It can have different levels of sheen (sometimes an eggshell is not really an eggshell), and can require different types of applicators to make it look great on the wall. PPG Manor Hall, however, exceeded all expectations and quickly put our nerves at ease.

The job at hand was a perfect testing ground. It had a few different types of surfaces to cover, and a handful of custom colors to work with. As a fairly new home (1 year old), the homeowner had painted 2 rooms twice with semigloss before deciding to call in a professional for a “color change and neater job” (thank you Angieslist.com for the reference!)  So we had 2 bedrooms painted with a darker color and more sheen that anyone could ever want on the walls, and the rest of the house was sprayed with a very low grade builders flat barley thick enough to cover the drywall.  We also had a mass amount of nail pops to fix and re-patch. This gave us a total of 3 different surfaces to put the true coverage of this paint to the test on.

We loved Manor Hall from the first dip out of the can to the last roll on the wall. The paint was slightly thinker than the Sherwin Williams products we are accustomed to, but it went on with ease. We were very impressed with the coverage over all of the surfaces. The brush and roller textures blended in as smooth as butter, and the Manor Hall dried with a smooth, even finish. The eggshell sheen we were working with looked exactly the way we were hoping. Rich enough to reflect a slight amount of light to make the rooms look lively and vibrant, but not so much to be distracting or amplify slight imperfections on the wall.

Looking good on the wall is of course only half the battle with paint. The other half comes AFTER the paint is on the wall with it’s adhesion, scrub ability/burnish resistance, and durability. The hardness of this paint was evident within 4 hours of applying it to the walls. Even over the builders grade flat that soaked up nearly as much paint as bare drywall, the Manor Hall would not scratch off. We also took a swipe with a dry cloth, a wet cloth with a mild detergent (Krud Kutter), and a magic eraser before we left (please don’t try this at home, magic erasers will wear the sheen off of even the most durable paints over time.) The results were outstanding, as none of these left any visible markings whatsoever. And since the paint is technically still hardening for 2 weeks, we expect these great qualities to only improve over time.

In a nutshell, we were THRILLED with the results Manor Hall Interior Paint in Eggshell. We plan to add it to our daily arsenal of go-to products immediately. It was easy to work with, forgiving, looked great on the walls, and dried hard as a rock. The brighter colors looked as crisp and even as the neutrals, and the coverage was good enough that you would have a fighting chance of achieving the mythical “one coat coverage” (we would never recommend attempting this as professionals… but if you are in a hurry this is a great paint to try.)

Perhaps MOST impressive with Manor Hall is it’s ability to touch up with minimal visibility. One of our main complaints with newer, VOC regulated paints is that sheen build with touch ups often makes them more visible than what you start with. NOT the case with Manor Hall, which makes it of great value to the professional painter and DIYer alike. Oh, and let us not forget a very reasonable price point and lifetime warranty.  Try it, you’ll like it!

Greta review of the product. You covered pretty much everything one need to know about this paint. We used to use Manor Hall a lot but there hasn’t been a local retailer in our area anymore!
